SOLOMONS, MD – August 30, 2018 Visit the Calvert Marine Museum before heading back to school! Programs and activities are scheduled for all members of the family. Visit the website at www.calvertmarinemuseum.com for a complete listing.


Friday, September 7 – First FREE Friday

5 p.m. – 8 p.m. The museum and Drum Point Lighthouse are open and FREE to the public with docents in every gallery. Enjoy 30-minute cruises on the Tennison. Entertainment will be provided by the U.S. Navy Band Commodores jazz ensemble at 6 p.m. on the PNC Waterside Pavilion outdoor stage. The Museum Store will be open.

Tuesday, September 11; Thursday, September 13; and Wednesday, September 19 – Sea Squirts

10 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Theme is Terrific Turtles! FREE drop-in program for children 18-months to 3 years and their caregivers. Limited space available.

Friday, September 14 – Back Porch Blues

7 p.m. The Maritime Performance Series presents the first show in the series. Back Porch Blues is an all-star down-home acoustic trio consisting of guitar and vocals by Eleanor Ellis, blues harmonica by Jay Summerour, and the percussion talents of Eric Selby. This performance is sponsored in part by a Maryland State Arts Council Maryland Touring Grant. Tickets are $20 online, $25 at the door and available at www.bit.ly//MaritimeConcerts. Doors open at 6 p.m. with beer and wine for sale.

Sunday, September 16 – Dee of St. Mary’s Public Sail

2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Sail aboard the Dee and experience the Patuxent River like never before! The boat leaves from the museum dock. Fee is $25 for ages 13 and up, $15 for children 5 – 12. No children under 5 please. Preregistration required; call 410-326-2042 ext. 41 to register.

Thursday, September 20 – Coffee and Doughnuts and 20% Off for Members

10:15 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. CMM members are invited to visit the Museum Store for coffee and doughnuts from 10 – 11 a.m. and will receive a FREE journal with a $50 or more purchase! Museum members enjoy a 20% discount in the Museum Store all day today and on the 20th of every month.

Saturday, September 22 – Fossil Club Meeting and Lecture

1 – 2 p.m. The meeting will be held in the third floor Lounge. Public lecture will follow from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. in the Harms Gallery. Dr. Mary Schweitzer will speak on soft tissue preservation in the fossil record. Lecture is FREE and open to the public.

Saturday, September 22 – Toy Boat Building

2 – 4 p.m. Make a toy boat in the boat basin with sessions starting on the half hour. $2 donation per boat requested. For ages 5 and older. Museum admission required.

Thursday, September 27 – Little Minnows

10 a.m. – 11 a.m. A program for children age 3 – 5 and their caregivers. Birds, Beaks, Feathers, and Feet. 

Fee is $5, members are FREE. Limited space available.

Friday, September 28 – Pirate Day

10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Throw on your best pirate outfit! Hear pirate stories, sing sea chanteys at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Ongoing fun includes getting a pirate tattoo, learning to tie knots, and walking the plank. Museum admission applies.

Friday, September 28 – BUA in Concert

7:30 p.m. The Maritime Performance Series presents BUA in partnership with the Celtic Society of Southern Maryland. Enjoy an evening of traditional Irish music. Sponsored in part by the Ruddy Duck Brewery and Grill. Tickets are $30 at the door with advance purchase discounts available online at www.cssm.org/tickets. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with beer and wine for sale.

The Calvert Marine Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $9.00 for adults; $7.00 for seniors, military with valid I.D, AAA and AARP members; $4.00 for children ages 5 - 12; children under 5 and museum members are admitted free.
