NOVEMBER EVENTS AT THE CALVERT MARINE MUSEUM


SOLOMONS, MD – October 23, 2019 – 
There’s a chill in the air, but it’s warm and welcoming at the museum!  There’s something for every member of the family, year-round at CMM.  For a complete listing of programs & activities this month, visit us on Facebook or at www.calvertmarinemuseum.com.

Friday, November 1 – Special Needs Night
5 p.m. – 7 p.m.  The museum is open exclusively for individuals with special needs and their families or caregiver to visit for FREE.  Enjoy the many museum exhibits, 30-minute cruises on the Wm. B. Tennison (weather permitting), and have fun in a supportive environment.  A model train display will be set up, courtesy of the Chesapeake Beach Model Railroad Club.  The Museum Store will be open and a special calming room will be available.  Come and see why the Calvert Marine Museum is a fun place to visit with your family any day of the week.  CMM is partnering with Calvert County Parks & Recreation Therapeutic Services for this event.

Saturday, November 2 – Model Train Display
10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Harms Gallery.  The Chesapeake Beach Model Railroad Club will host a model train display.  Museum admission required.

Tuesday, November 5; Thursday, November 7; & Wednesday, November 13 – Sea Squirts
10:15 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.  FREE drop-in program for children 18 months to 3 years old and their caregivers. This month's theme is Dino-Power: the Mighty Dinosaurs.  Space is limited.

Sunday, November 10 – “On Watch” Memorial Service
2 p.m. at the site of the “On Watch” statue at the end of Dowell Road in Dowell, Maryland.  Join us to thank all of our veterans for their service.  Refreshments served on-site following the program.


Monday, November 11 – STEM Day
11 a.m. – 3 p.m.  Ongoing learning sessions exploring STEM concepts, such as simple machines that make work on a boat easier, the aerodynamics of sailing, and exploring buoyancy.  Program included with museum admission.


Friday, November 15 – Maritime Performance Series presents Knuckle Dusters 
7 p.m. in the Harms Gallery.
  The Knuckle Dusters have performed traditional old-time fiddle, swing, ragtime, country, blues, and hillbilly-jazz music for diverse audiences across the Mid-Atlantic States.  Join these colorful characters with a deep repertoire matched only by their miles of musical experience.  Doors open at 6 p.m. with beer and wine available for sale. Tickets are $20 online at calvertmarinemuseum.com/Maritime-Performance-Series and $25 at the door. 


Saturday, November 16 – Fossil Club Annual Potluck Meeting & Lecture
12 p.m. & 2:30 p.m.  Luncheon to begin at 12 p.m., followed by a public lecture at 2:30 p.m. in the Harms Gallery.  Dr. Buck Ward will present the lecture entitled: Evolution of Ecphora – Oligocene to the Pliocene.


Wednesday, November 20 – Coffee & Doughnuts 
10 a.m. – 11 a.m. in the Museum Store.  Museum members are invited for coffee and doughnuts. Enjoy a 20% discount all day and, as a special treat for coming in early, receive a FREE gift with your purchase of $50 or more. Gifts are limited to one per membership, and only available while supplies last, so plan to arrive early!

Thursday, November 21 – Little Minnows
10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.  A program for children ages 3 to 5 years and their caregivers. This month’s theme is Fossil Exploration.  Fee is $5, CMM members are FREE.


Thursday, November 28 – Thanksgiving Day
The Calvert Marine Museum and Museum Store are closed.


 Friday, November 29 – Maritime Performance Series presents Timothy Seaman 
7 p.m. in the Harms Gallery.
  A special Thanksgiving weekend treat for the family, Timothy Seaman is a master of the hammered dulcimer.  In anticipation of the Christmas season, listen for a few favorite carols rendered in new and stirring ways to usher in the holidays.  Doors open at 6 p.m. with beer and wine available for sale. Tickets are $20 online at calvertmarinemuseum.com/Maritime-Performance-Series and $25 at the door. 


Explore how the prehistoric past, natural environments, and maritime heritage come to life and tell a unique story of the Chesapeake Bay. The Calvert Marine Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be closed to the public from January 1, 2019 until March 11, 2019. Admission is $9.00 for adults; $7.00 for seniors, military with valid I.D, AAA and AARP members; $4.00 for children ages 5 - 12; children under 5 and museum members are admitted free.
