    Fossil Club Meeting in the museum's 3rd floor Lounge from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Meetings are open to the public; you do not have to be a current CMMFC member to attend. Beverages and snacks are usually provided and additional "finger food" contributions are always appreciated. Free public lecture to follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Harms Gallery.

  2. Fossil Club Public Lecture

    Free public lecture to follow the Fossil Club Meeting. Fossil enthusiast Tim Foard will speak on what he has learned from looking at petrified wood. Mr. Foard thin-sections petrified wood and examines them under the microscope and will speak on how these microscopic details yield information on the prehistoric world.

  1. 11th Annual Maryland Lighthouse Challenge

    September 16, 2017, 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM @ Calvert Marine Museum - Drum Point Lighthouse; Cove Point Lighthouse Station

    Drum Point Lighthouse closes at 4 PM Saturday, but participants can still see the lighthouse and receive their stamp. Lighthouse lovers, take the challenge and see ten historic Maryland lighthouses in two days. Visit some of the most beautiful spots in the state and see Concord Point, Seven Foot Knoll, Lightship Chesapeake, Hooper Strait, Choptank River Replica, Drum Point, Cove Point, Piney Point, Point Lookout and Fort Washington Lighthouses. Upon arrival at the Drum Point Lighthouse, visit the Museum Store featuring lighthouse items including a custom box of note cards, pins, patches, and ornaments. Hop on a shuttle bus to the Cove Point Lighthouse, located 5 miles north at 3500 Lighthouse Blvd. Parking is limited at Cove Point and available for handicapped guests only. Buses begin at 8 AM with the last departing at 5:30 PM. Receive a complimentary souvenir at each location. Visit all ten lighthouses and proclaim “you’ve seen the lights!” and receive a “special” souvenir.

  2. Fossil Field Experience

    September 16, 2017, 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM @ Calvert Marine Museum & Cove Point Lighthouse Visitors Center and Beach

    Come and explore the fossils of Calvert Cliffs. This program is designed for people who want to learn more about fossils, where to find them, how to identify them, and what they can tell us about the past. For adults and children 8 and older, accompanied by an adult. Space is limited. Preregistration required at least 2 days before the program.

  3. Aww... Shucks Oyster Social!

    September 16, 2017, 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM @ Under the Drum Point Lighthouse

    Join us the museum’s annual fundraiser for the Dee of St. Mary’s. Indulge in the fattest and saltiest oysters on the half shell from 4:00 – 7:00 PM under the lighthouse. Heavy hors d’ oeuvres, beer and wine, and live music by Jeff Farias and Gary Rue promise an evening of relaxed fun. Proceeds from this year’s event will support a new endowment for the Dee.
