Family Events
The Calvert Marine Museum is a family museum and every day is an opportunity to create family memories. To take full advantage of our offerings, we encourage you to consider membership in the museum. We offer special programming during all school holidays. Be sure to check out the Calendar of Events for details.
For the following program details, go to Education Programs:
  • Sea Squirts: For children 18 months to 3 years and their caregivers

  • Little Minnows: For children 3 – 5 years and their caregivers

  • Road Scholar Intergenerational Programs for grandparents and grandchildren

  • Boat Building – Scheduled on demand over two weekends

  • Fossil Field Experience – (Children must be at least 8 years and accompanied by an adult)
  • Pirate Day – Normally scheduled in November. Come dressed as a pirate, hear pirate stories, sing sea chanteys, make a pirate hat, learn to talk like a pirate, play Treasure Island, and walk the plank on our pirate ship. Regular museum admission applies.
  • Dino Days to celebrate National Fossil Day! Friday, October 17, 2014. Be a Paleontologist for the day! Dig for "dinosaur bones" in the Discovery Room sand box and go on a scavenger hunt filled with fun dinosaur facts that ends with cracking a dinosaur egg. Make your own dino hat; listen to dinosaur stories; sing special dinosaur songs; and learn the dinosaur stomp dance. Learn all you can about dinosaurs while having fun and playing games. All activities free with museum admission.
  • "On Watch" Memorial Service - November 9, 2014, at 2 p.m. Join us to thank all of our veterans for their service. Refreshments served on site following the program. At the site of the On Watch statue at the end of Dowell Road, Dowell, Maryland.
  • Homeschool Day - November 19, 2014, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. River to Bay: Reflections and Connections. Special hands-on workshops for homeschoolers throughout the museum focusing on the animals, habitats, and environmental challenges in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. For children ages 5-12 with an adult. Admission applies plus a program fee of $2 per child. Register in the lobby.
