Book a Birthday Party

Parties at the Calvert Marine Museum are a benefit of membership.

Our birthday parties accommodate a maximum of 15 children and 5 adults. The fee includes:

  • Admission to the museum

  • Your choice of party theme, complete with downloadable invitations

  • Reserved space for your party

  • Museum T-shirt for the birthday girl or boy

  • Goodie bags are available at $2 per child and must be purchased when payment is received. No refunds.

You may arrive 30 minutes prior to the program start time to set up for the party in our party room. The program lasts 1 hour and 15 minutes and you will have use of our party room for the remaining 45 minutes.

Fees: Basic birthday party: $125 Tennison Cruise (1 hour) $250

For information and reservations, call 410-326-2042 ext. 41. Parties may be scheduled any day of the week. Reservations must be made at least three weeks in advance.

Party Themes & Recommended Ages:

Diggin’ Up The Past: This party is perfect for children fascinated by fossils. Children will explore the fossil hall, have an opportunity to handle different kinds of fossils found in the Calvert Cliffs. They will create their own fossil using plaster and rubber animal prints, and have their picture taken in the skeletal jaws of a shark. They’ll play “Pin the Fin on the Shark” and hear the story of Dinosaur Bones. Ages 5 & up.

Mermaid Party: Perfect for the little princess in your life, girls can dress like a mermaid, get a mermaid “tattoo” and have their picture taken. They will create special mermaid jewelry and then take a special “under the sea” tour of the Estuarium. Then back to the party room for a game and story before cake and presents. Ages 5 - 8.

Pirate Adventures: A party for the adventurous at heart, the party goers will go on a treasure hunt using a pirate map that includes clues and activities to help find the hidden treasure. Learn pirate lore and language, and a sea chantey or two. Paint and decorate a pirate chest and learn the essential skill of knot tying. Ages 5 – 8.

Fins & Tails: Great for little ones who love living things, partiers make a paper plate turtle after meeting the terrapins in our touch tank. They will hear a puppet story about one of the critters in our Estuarium, and then go into the museum to see the real thing. They’ll play pin the fin on the shark and learn to move like marsh critters. Ages 3 – 6.

Outrageous Otters: Partiers make an otter mask, play “follow the otter” with a guest appearance from the CMM mascot, get a special tour of the Estuarium and the otter habitat, play “Who Am I” as they learn about the various animals in the marsh, and hear the story of Oopsie the Otter. This party is designed for younger children but can be tailored for older children who just love the otters. Ages 3 & up.

Cruising Party: We also offer a special birthday Cruising Aboard the Wm. B. Tennison. This party can accommodate up to 38 people, and is great for any age. You can take an hour long ride, and have your cake and gifts on board. Fee includes admission to the museum for all participants.
