CHESAPEAKE BAY COOKING WITH JOHN SHIELDS
An afternoon delight on Saturday, March 26

Learn some tips and tricks with special guest, John Shields, local renowned chef and author of “Chesapeake Bay Cooking with John Shields” on Saturday, March 26 at the Calvert Marine Museum Store. See Shields’ cooking demonstration at 2:00 p.m. in the Harms Gallery and taste samples of Pauleen’s Seafood Gumbo and cornbread. Cookbooks are available in the Museum Store and a book signing will follow the demonstration.

“The cookbook is a great gift idea and owning a personalized copy is something to be treasured,” says Museum Store Manager, Maureen Baughman. In this 25th anniversary edition, Shields combines popular classic dishes with a host of unpublished recipes from his personal archives. Readers will learn how to prepare over 200 recipes from the Mid-Atlantic region, including pan fried rockfish, roast mallard, beaten biscuits, oyster fritters, and Lady Baltimore cake. Highlights include seven different kinds of crab cakes recipes, along with a new chapter on Chesapeake libations. Nominated for a James Beard Award, the book was praised for its inspiring heritage recipes and it emphasis on cooking with local and seasonal ingredients.

Chef John Shields is the owner of Gertrude’s Restaurant at the Baltimore Museum of Art. The host of PBS’s Chesapeake Bay Cooking and Coastal Cooking with John Shields, he is the author of The Chesapeake Bay Cookbook: Rediscovering the Pleasures of a Great Regional Cuisine, The Chesapeake Bay Crab Cookbook, and Coastal Cooking with John Shields.

The Museum Store has a variety of housewarming, as well as special occasion, gifts. Entertain in style with the latest arrivals including a new batch of Made in America dishes, serving pieces by Clay Born Pottery, cocktail napkins, etched crab wine glasses, and stemless etched anchor wine glasses.
