CHESAPEAKE OYSTERS WITH KATE LIVIE
Kate Livie, author and Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum Director of Education, will present her new book, “Chesapeake Oysters: The Bay’s Foundation and Future” on Friday, March 11 at 7:00 p.m. at the Calvert Marine Museum. A book signing will follow the presentation, along with samples of shucked, Chesapeake oysters from Shore Thing Shellfish, LLC and Hollywood Oyster Company. Free program.
Livie’s book explores the history, culture, and future of the bay’s beloved bivalve, from the oyster middens of the Chesapeake Indians to today’s boutique oyster farms. Livie’s presentation and readings will focus on the vivid stories and in-depth interviews included in the book.
An Eastern Shore native, Livie is a Chesapeake educator, writer, and historian. In addition to her position at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, Livie writes for the Chesapeake Bay Journal and www.beautifulswimmers.tumblr.com.
