CMM PRESENTS 2016 MARITIME PERFORMANCE SERIES
The 7th Annual Maritime Performance Series at the Calvert Marine Museum begins on Friday, September 16 and continues through 2017. This series promises an eclectic mix of traditional music ranging from sweet harmonies to foot stomping jigs. Most performances begin at 7 p.m. in the Harms Gallery and there will be beer and wine for sale. Ticket prices vary per show and can be bought in advance online at www.bit.ly//MaritimeConcerts or at the door (cash or check only). The series is sponsored in part by Holiday Inn Solomons.
Friday, September 16 - CALAN presented by the Southern Maryland Celtic Society
CALAN brings together the remarkable talents of five young Welsh musicians who use a contemporary approach to the old traditions. With their unique instrumental blend of accordion, fiddle, guitar, Welsh pipes, Welsh harp, and the percussive sound of the Welsh clogs, Calan have found their musical niche. Doors open at 7 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m. This performance is sponsored in part by the Ruddy Duck Brewery & Grill. Tickets are $25 and available online at www.cssm.org/tickets.
Friday, September 30 - Bumper Jacksons
Returning for their third appearance, Bumper Jacksons’ hot and sweet early jazz and country repertoire paints America's story from New Orleans' brothels to Appalachian hollers. Honored as the region's 2015 "Artist of the Year" and "Best Folk Band" from 2013-2015 at the Washington Area Music Awards, the group has positioned themselves squarely at the helm of the young roots music scene in DC. This performance is sponsored in part by the Maryland State Arts Council Maryland Touring Grant. Doors open at 6 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 online, $20 at the door.
Friday, October 14 - Tim and Savannah Finch with The Eastman String Band
Good Deale Bluegrass founder and multi-instrumentalist, Tim Finch, teams up with the sweet vocals and songwriting styles of Savannah Finch to create a unique melding of the roots of Bluegrass with Americana, exemplifying an “Alt-grass” sound. The Eastman String Band mixes heartfelt originals with high energy instrumentals and soaring harmonies! Doors open at 6 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 online, $15 at the door.
Friday, November 4 – EVA
With roots in Australia, Ireland, the UK, and the USA, all-female folk rock trio EVA blends worldly sensibilities with time-honored musical traditions for a contemporary evening of song. Kath Buckell (AUS), Liz Simmons, and Nicole Zuraitis (both from the US) lend their three distinct voices to create powerful harmonies anchored on the textured landscape of guitar, piano, and percussion, accompanied by expert drummer Dan Pugach. Doors open at 6 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 online, $15 at the door.
The Maritime Performance Series will continue in 2017 with dates announced later in November.
Eastman Handcrafted Guitars & Mandolins has donated a beautiful Rosewood and Mahogany acoustic guitar and hard case (valued at $700) to support the Maritime Performance Series. The guitar is being raffled and the drawing will be at the last maritime concert. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $20 and available at all concerts, during our First Free Friday events, and at the Museum Store.
