Friday, September 2 - First Free Friday
5 p.m. – 8 p.m. The Museum and Drum Point Lighthouse are open and free to the public with free 30-minute cruises aboard the Wm. B. Tennison. Enjoy the Navy Band Commodores at the PNC Waterside Pavilion starting at 6:00 p.m.
Saturday, September 3 – Solomons Island Kite Day
10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Celebrate the annual Solomons Island Kite Day with Wings Over Washington Kite Club in the field across from the museum. Bring your own kite or make one at the museum. Kite kits will be on sale for $5 each, cash only. Participation is FREE and open to the public. General museum admission applies for visitation to the exhibition gallery.
Tuesday, September 6, Thursday, September 8, and Wednesday, September 14 - Sea Squirts
10 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Theme is Reptiles – Scales, Tails and Nails. Free drop-in program for children 18-months to 3 years and their caregivers.
Thursday, September 8 – 2016 PEM Talks presents Jack Shaum
7 p.m. in the Harms Gallery. PEM Talks focuses on Vanished Steamboats: The Maritime Art of C. Leslie Oursler, the exhibit currently on display in the Mezzanine Gallery. Jack Shaum, guest curator for the exhibit and longtime friend of the artist, will speak about Oursler’s life and work. An expert on steamboats in his own right, Shaum vividly evokes the golden age of steam travel through photographs and descriptions.
Saturday, September 10 – Kid’s Pirate Pizza Cruise
11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Dress like a pirate and eat pizza on board the William B. Tennison. Arggggh! $15 per person. Pre-registration required. Call 410-326-2042, ext. 41.
Friday, September 16 – CALAN presented by Southern Maryland Celtic Society
Doors open at 7 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m. CALAN brings together the remarkable talents of five young Welsh musicians who use a contemporary approach to the old traditions. See their unique instrumental blend of accordion, fiddle, guitar, Welsh pipes and harp, and the percussive sound of the Welsh clogs. This performance sponsored in part by the Ruddy Duck Brewery & Grill. Tickets are $25 online at www.cssm.org/tickets.
Saturday, September 17 – Fossil Field Experience
9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Go to a local beach and explore the fossils of Calvert Cliffs with a trained educator. Get a special tour of the fossil hall. For ages 8 and up. Pre-registration required, $20, includes museum admission. Space is limited. Call 410-326-2042 ext. 41.
Saturday, September 17 – Fossil Club Demonstration
2 p.m. in the Harms Gallery. Jeri Cuffley and Erin Baker will present on how to sculpt creatures with Sculpey, a polymer clay.
Saturday, September 17 – Sunset Supper Cruise
5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. Come aboard the Wm. B. Tennison for a narrated 90-minute cruise with historian Coby Treadway. Participants will enjoy appetizers as he talks participants through time along the Patuxent River, highlighting events from the paleo-Indians to WWII. After the cruise, the evening continues inside with a short presentation and a light supper catered by No Thyme to Cook. Tickets are $50 per person; seating is limited. Thursday, September 22 – Little Minnows
10 a.m. – 11 a.m. A program for children age 3 – 5 and their caregivers. Theme is Reptiles – Scales, Tails and Nails. Fee is $5, CMM members free.
Thursday, September 22 – Pub Night
7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Bring your friends and enjoy an evening of sea chanteys, nautical theme songs, and hearty cheer. Beer and wine available for sale. Free event.
Friday, September 30 – Pirate Day!
10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Throw on your best pirate outfit and head for the museum to hear pirate stories, sing sea chanteys, make a pirate hat, get a pirate tattoo, learn to tie knots and walk the plank on our pirate ship. Get your face painted too; $2 donation. Museum admission applies.
Friday, September 30 – Bumper Jacksons
Doors open at 6 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m. Returning by popular demand for their 3rd museum performance, Bumper Jacksons’ hot and sweet early jazz and country repertoire paints America’s story from New Orleans’ brothels to Appalachian hollers. Honored as the region’s 2015 “Artist of the Year” and “Best Folk Band” from 2013-2015 at the Washington Area Music Awards, the group has positioned themselves squarely at the helm of the young roots music scene in DC. This performance is sponsored in part by the Maryland State Arts Council Maryland Touring Grant. Tickets are $15 online, $20 at the door and available at www.bit.ly//MaritimeConcerts.

The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $9.00 for adults, $7.00 for seniors, military with valid I.D. and AAA members, and $4.00 for children ages 5 - 12; children under 5 and museum members are always admitted free.
