Happy Holidays from all of us at the Calvert Marine Museum. Lots of activities and events are planned for all members of the family this month. Visit the website at www.calvertmarinemuseum.com for a complete list of programs.
Friday, December 2 & Saturday, December 3 – Solomons Christmas Walk
6 p.m. – 9 p.m. The museum is open and free to the public. Enjoy musical entertainment, refreshments, Santa, the Otter, holiday crafts, and shopping in the Museum Store on both nights. Santa’s Coffee House will be open Saturday with complimentary hot tea, coffee, hot cocoa, and holiday cookies. Museum members will save 20% off in the Store all weekend!
Tuesday, December 6 and Wednesday, December 14 – Sea Squirts
10 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Backyard Winter Animals. Free program for children 18 months to 3 years old and their caregivers.
Friday, December 9 – Sea Squirts
10 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Join special guest, Beth Frook from Little Hands. For children ages 18 months to 3 years old. Free program sponsored by PNC Grow Up Great!
Sundays, December 11 and 18 – Gingerbread Lighthouse Workshop
Sessions at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Register at the admissions desk on the day of the programs. Space is limited; $4 fee per child.
Thursday, December 22 – Little Minnows
10 a.m. – 11 a.m. A program for children age 3 – 5 and their caregivers. Theme is Backyard Winter Animals. Fee is $5, CMM members are FREE.
Friday, December 23 – Ornament Workshop
1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Register at the admission desk the day of the program. Space is limited; fee is $4 per child.
Saturday, December 24
The Museum and Museum Store close at 2 p.m.
Sunday, December 25 – Christmas Day
The Museum and Museum Store are closed today.
Monday, December 26 – Fish Sock Puppets
10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Create zany and fun fish puppets! Bring your own matchless socks and we’ll provide the embellishments. FREE with museum admission.
Tuesday, December 27 – Snow Globe Workshop
Starting at 1 p.m., on the half hour. Make snow globes out of recycled materials from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Each session is limited to 20 participants. Sign up in the Discovery Room. Fee is $2 per child with museum admission.
Wednesday, December 28 – Chesapeake Critters Program
10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Learn about the amazing animals in our aquarium. FREE with museum admission. Check the daily events at the admissions desk.
Thursday, December 29 – Winter Wildlife
10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Discover the animals that make the wintry waters of the Chesapeake their home. FREE with museum admission.
Friday, December 30 – New Year’s With the Lighthouse Keeper
10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Get ready for 2017 with the keeper of the Drum Point Lighthouse. Play period games, and help decorate the lighthouse for the New Year! FREE with museum admission.
Saturday, December 31 – NOON Year’s Eve Party
10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the Harms Gallery for all ages. Make a party hat and New Year’s wish ornament, hear a special story, enjoy Nicolo Whimsey, the juggler, and join the dance party with Bubbles. Toast in the NOON Year with sparkling ginger ale and fishy snacks when the ball drops at high noon. Fee is $2 per child with museum admission.

The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $9.00 for adults, $7.00 for seniors, military with valid I.D. and AAA members, and $4.00 for children ages 5 - 12; children under 5 and museum members are always admitted free.
