MAY EVENTS AT THE CALVERT MARINE MUSEUM

Plan to visit as the busy season begins at the Calvert Marine Museum! Programs and activities are scheduled for all members of the family. Visit the website at www.calvertmarinemuseum.com for a complete listing.

Saturday, May 6 – Solomons Maritime Festival

10 a.m. – 5 p.m. FREE!  Celebrate Southern Maryland traditions! Antique boats and motors, master maritime carvers, home crafts and cooking demonstrations, traditional music, children’s games and crafts, and boat rides offer something for all members of the family!

Tuesday, May 9 - Thursday, May 11 and Wednesday, May 17 – Sea Squirts

10 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.  Tales from the Tackle Box. FREE drop-in program for children 18-months to three years and their caregivers.

Sunday, May 14 – Mother’s Day Brunch Cruise

11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. What better way to say ‘You’re Special’ than a relaxing cruise and brunch aboard the Wm. B. Tennison. Adults $25, ages 5 – 12 $15, and 4 and under $10. Preregistration by May 10 required. Call 410-326-2042, ext. 41 to register.

Sunday, May 14 – Mother’s Day Evening Cruise

5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Enjoy a perfect ending to Mom’s special day with heavy hors d’ oeuvres and a cruise aboard the Wm. B. Tennison. . Adults $25, ages 5 – 12 $15, and 4 and under $10. Preregistration required. Call 410-326-2042, ext. 41 to register.

 Wednesday, May 17 – Gills Club

5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. FREE programs for girls interested in learning more about sharks. Gills Club is a STEM-focused program from the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy with activities designed for girls ages 7 – 12. Preregistration is required. Register at www.bit.ly//GillsClubRegistration.

  Thursday, May 18 – CMM Day of Giving Commemorating International Museum Day

The museum is counting on you to ensure that we continue to be your portal to the Chesapeake. Please make a gift to commemorate International Museum Day. The museum is open and FREE to the public from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Friday, May 19 – Vibrio Vulnificus Lecture

6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Dr. Rita Colwell, global infectious disease specialist, will speak on Vibrio vulnificus in the Harms Gallery. Learn the facts about this flesh eating bacteria found in the Chesapeake Bay, estuaries, brackish ponds, or coastal waters. FREE lecture.

Saturday, May 20 Fossil Field Experience

9 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Come explore the fossils of Calvert Cliffs with a trained museum educator. For ages 8 and up. Cost is $20 and includes museum admission. Space is limited; preregistration required. Call 410-326-2042, ext. 41 to register.

Saturday, May 20 Pizza Pirate Cruise

11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.  Dress like a pirate and eat pizza aboard the Tennison. Arggggh. Be careful not to walk the plank! Tickets are $15 per person. Space is limited; preregistration required. Call 410-326-2042, ext. 41 to register.

Monday, May 22 Road Scholar Summer Music Series

7 p.m. – 9 p.m.  The Road Scholar Summer Music Series presents Tom Lewis in the Harms Gallery. Tom has a rich repertoire that ranges from traditional shanties to songs fashioned out of his own searfaring background. He accompanies himself on button accordion and ukulele – but it’s that powerful vocal style and infectious humor which keeps audiences utterly enchanted and thoroughly entertained. Tickets are $10, cash or check at the door. Doors open at 6 p.m. with beer and wine for sale.

Thursday, May 25  Little Minnows

10 a.m. – 11 a.m.  Going Buggy. For children ages 3 to 5 years. Members are FREE; $5 for non-members.

Saturday, May 27 – Dee of St. Mary’s Public Sail

2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Sail on the Dee of St. Mary’s leaving from the museum dock. Fee is $25 for ages 12 and up, $15 for children 5 – 12. No children under 5 please. Preregistration required, call 410-326-2042 ext. 41 to register.

Saturday, May 27 – Build a Toy Boat

2 p.m. – 4 p.m. Make a toy boat in the Maritime History Hall with sessions starting on the half hour. $2 donation requested. Museum admission required.

The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $9.00 for adults, $7.00 for seniors, military with valid I.D. and AAA members, and $4.00 for children ages 5 - 12; children under 5 and museum members are always admitted free.
