OCTOBER EVENTS AT THE CALVERT MARINE MUSEUM

Tuesday, October 7 and Thursday, October 9 – Sea Squirts
10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Signs of Animals - Look for the signs animals leave behind. Tracks, scat, holes, and food remains are just a few clues we can piece together to figure out what animals live here. Join us for games, stories, and a walk outside. Free drop-in program for toddlers 18 months to three years and their caregivers.
Saturday, October 11 – River to Bay: Reflections and Connections
Don’t miss the grand opening of our new estuarine biology exhibit River to Bay: Reflections and Connections. The new 14 aquarium exhibit will be an immersive experience introducing guests to the amazing diversity of animal life found in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. The exhibit highlights three unique bay habitats: the deep, open waters, the brackish coastal shallows, and freshwaters of the coastal plains. Visitors can explore how bay creatures are connected to their surroundings, to each other, and to humans.
Saturday and Sunday, October 11 and 12 - Patuxent River Appreciation Days (PRAD): Enjoy free boat rides, toy boat building, juried arts and crafts show, great food, live music on two stages, local wine tasting, environmental groups, and many activities for children and their families all weekend from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Parade is on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Visit the website at www.pradinc.org for complete details. Friday, October 17 - Dino Days to celebrate National Fossil Day!
Be a paleontologist for the day, dig for dinosaur bones in the Discovery Room sand box and go on a scavenger hunt filled with fun dinosaur facts that ends with you cracking a dinosaur egg. Make your own dino hat; listen to dinosaur stories; sing special dinosaur songs; and learn the dinosaur stomp dance. Learn all you can about dinosaurs while having fun and playing games – fossil day has never been so exciting! All activities are free with museum admission.
Friday, October 17 – Them Eastport Oyster Boys
7:30 p.m. in the Harms Gallery - Maritime Performance Series presents Them Eastport Oyster Boys well known for their wit, wisdom and special message of stewardship and appreciation for the bay. The group draws from a wide variety of instruments and musical styles including island rhythms, boogie woogie, Dixie-swing, maritime chanteys, waltzes and even good ol’ rock-and-roll. Admission is $10 at the door, cash or check; beer, wine, water, and snacks available for sale. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Thursday, October 23 – Chesapeake Creative Dance
Sea Squirts, 10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Children 18-months – 3 years and their caregivers
Little Minnows, 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon for children 3 – 5 years and their caregivers
Come learn about Chesapeake Bay animals through creative movement, dance, and storytelling with guest teacher Shannon from Chesapeake Creative Dance. Support provided by PNC Grow Up Great. Free program in the Harms Gallery. No registration required.
Saturday, October 25 - Annual Monster Mash Cruise and Costume Contest
4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. Little goblins and their families are invited to cruise aboard the Wm. B. Tennison. Adults $8, Children 5-12 $7, children 4 and under $5. Preregistration required. Call 410-326-2042 ext. 41.
