JULY EVENTS
Summer is officially here! Ongoing activities are scheduled daily, visit the website at www.calvertmarinemuseum.com for a complete listing. On the weekends during the summer, enjoy pedal boating and rowing from 12 noon – 4 p.m. in the boat basin; FREE with museum admission.
Wednesday, July 5 – Friday, July 7 – Build Your Own Coroplast Boat Camp
9 a.m. – 3 p.m. For children entering 7th – 9th grade. Exercise your STEM skills during this three day camp. Each participant will build and take home a canoe made of the same corrugated plastic used by the museum to make road signs. Learn lessons on boating safety and canoe maneuvering. Fee is $65. Saturday, July 8 - SHARKFEST!
10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Visit live sharks and Chesapeake Bay native Atlantic sturgeon featured in the Corbin Pavilion. Participate in hands-on activities throughout the museum, paint a shark mural, do a shark-themed craft, get your face painted ($5 fee), and take your picture in the jaws of a Megalodon shark. Slide down the jaws of a giant inflated shark sponsored by Tidewater Dental. Food vendors will be on-site. Museum admission applies; members are FREE.
Juliet Eilperin, author of “Demon Fish” will present “Our Shark Obsession: Why Humans are Fixated on the Ocean’s Top Predator, and Why we Need to Keep Them Around” at 11 a.m. in the Mezzanine Gallery. A book signing will follow the presentation. “Demon Fish” is available for purchase in the Museum Store.
Sunday, July 9 - Dee of St. Mary’s Public Sail
2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Sail on board the Dee and experience the Patuxent River like never before! The boat leaves from the museum dock. Fee is $25 for ages 13 and up, $15 for children 5 – 12. No children under 5 please. Preregistration required, call 410-326-2042 ext. 41 to register.
Tuesday, July 11 – Story Time with Calvert Library Southern Branch
10 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Join us for a Bay and Ocean theme for children 8 and under in the Harms Gallery. FREE event.
Thursday, July 13 and Wednesday, July 19 – Sea Squirts
10 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Sharks! Free drop-in program for children 18-months to 3 years and their caregivers.
Friday, July 14 – Thomas Rhett with The Cadillac Three
7:30 p.m. Waterside Music Series presents Thomas Rhett with The Cadillac Three. Gates open at 6 p.m. with food and beverage vendors on site. For details about the show, please call 1-800-787-9454 or visit www.calvertmarinemuseum.com. The Museum closes at 3 p.m.
Saturday, July 22 – Toy Boat Building
2 p.m. – 4 p.m. Make a toy boat in the Maritime History Hall with sessions starting on the half hour. $2 donation per boat requested. Museum admission required.
Thursday, July 27 - Little Minnows
10 a.m. – 11 a.m. A program for children age 3 – 5 and their caregivers. Be a Tree! Fee is $5, members are FREE.

The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $9.00 for adults, $7.00 for seniors, military with valid I.D. and AAA members, and $4.00 for children ages 5 - 12; children under 5 and museum members are always admitted free.
