The Calvert Marine Museum in partnership with Schiffer Publishing is proud to present local renowned authors and illustrators on October 11 and 12 during Patuxent River Appreciation Days. Join them in the Harms Gallery from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. This is the perfect opportunity to find a new favorite book, personalize a book for a special Christmas gift, and participate in fun arts and crafts activities provided by some of the authors.

Authors in attendance on Saturday, October 11 with expertise in the history in and around the Chesapeake Bay include: Bob Rich, Farm Manager/Land Advisor who authored "The Best of Times on the Chesapeake Bay: An Account of a Rock Hall Waterman" and Donald Shomette with favorites, "Pirates of the Chesapeake Bay", "Shipwrecks of the Chesapeake Bay", "Lost Towns of Tidewater Maryland", "The Ghost Fleet of Mallows Bay" and "Other Tales of the Lost Chesapeake", "Tidewater Time Capsule: History Beneath the Patuxent", and "Briar Patch: The Murder that Would Not Die". John Into and Nancy Price, a married couple from the Eastern Shore and Master Model Makers with decades of experience making models found around the globe in private collections, museums, yacht clubs and on Madison Avenue have authored "Fundamentals of Model Boat Building". This book provides theories, methods, tips and photographic demonstrations to teach anyone the fine art of model building.

Back by popular demand are children’s authors: Elaine Ann Allen, an avid environmentalist who focuses on the aquatic life of the Chesapeake Bay and the importance of the environment in her books "Olly the Oyster Cleans the Bay", "Olly’s Treasure" and "Mallory the Forgetful Duck"; Susan Glick, a high school English teacher in Maryland who enjoys kayaking and biking will present her book "Jemma’s Got the Travel Bug"; and Kelli Nash, who grew up on the banks of Rock Creek in Pasadena, Maryland and has grown to love nature and the creatures of the wild. Kelli continues to be inspired by the bay and has illustrated children’s books by Elaine Allen, Susan Glick, and Lois Szymanski. The newest release of "Olly Explores the 7 Wonders of the Chesapeake Bay" by Elaine Allen debuts in the Spring 2015.

Caudle featuring "The Tale of Strawberry Snow" and Eric Krackow, with "Bill the Snowman", "Have an Abominably Good Day", "The Lollipop Monster", "The Lollipop Monster Meets Clem the Klutz", and his newest "The Lollipop Monster's Christmas".
