Happy Holidays from all of us at the Calvert Marine Museum. Lots of activities and events are planned for all members of the family this month. Visit the website at www.calvertmarinemuseum.com for a complete list of programs.
Friday, December 1 & Saturday, December 2 – Solomons Christmas Walk
6 – 9 p.m. The museum is open and free to the public. Enjoy musical entertainment, refreshments, Santa, the Otter mascot, holiday crafts, and shopping in the Museum Store on both nights. Santa’s Coffee House will be open Saturday with complimentary hot tea, coffee, hot cocoa, and holiday cookies. Museum members will save 20% off in the Museum Store all weekend!
Tuesday, December 5; Thursday, December 7; and Wednesday, December 13 – Sea Squirts
10 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.Fossil Exploration. Free program for children 18 months to 3 years old and their caregivers. Space is limited; if the session is full, another program will be offered at 11 a.m.
Sundays, December 10 and 17 – Gingerbread Lighthouse Workshop
Sessions at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Build and decorate your own gingerbread lighthouse and keeper’s cottage! For ages 4 – 10. Register at the admissions desk on the day of the programs. Space is limited; $4 fee per child with museum admission.
Wednesday, December 20 – Museum Members Save 20%
10 – 11 a.m. Museum members are invited for coffee and donuts and a FREE Stylus Pen. Members enjoy a 20% discount in the Museum Store all day today and on the 20th of every month!
Thursday, December 21 – Little Minnows
10 – 11 a.m. Maryland Symbols. A program for children age 3 – 5 and their caregivers.
Fee is $5, CMM members are FREE.
Saturday, December 23 – Ornament Workshop
1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Participants will receive a kit and instructions to create three fun and festive holiday ornaments. For ages 4 and older. Register at the admission desk the day of the program. Space is limited; fee is $4 per child with museum admission.

The Museum and Museum Store close at 2 p.m.
Monday, December 25 – Christmas Day
The Museum and Museum Store will be closed.
Tuesday, December 26 –Snow Globe Workshop
Starting at 1 p.m. sessions are every 30 minutes while supplies last. For ages 4 and older. Create your own winter wonderland in a jar with recycled materials. Sessions limited to 20 participants. Sign up in the Discovery Room on the day of the event. Fee is $2 per child with admission.
Wednesday, December 27 – Winter Wildlife
10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Discover the animals that make the wintry waters of the Chesapeake their home. Check the daily events schedule at the admissions desk for special program times. FREE with museum admission.
Thursday, December 28 –Winter Industry
10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Learn about working the bay waters in the winter. Discover the secrets of harvesting oysters and learn about traditional Chesapeake work boats. Take a guided tour of the Lore Oyster House (LOH). LOH open from 1-4 p.m. Check the daily events schedule at the admissions desk for tour times. FREE with museum admission.
Friday, December 29 – Blizzards and Bones
10 a.m. – 4 p.m. For ages 4 and older. Discover which animals adapted to Ice Age changes and which faced extinction while exploring our Treasures From the Cliffs exhibit. Excavate a fossil and make your own fossil mold at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. FREE with museum admission.
Saturday, December 30 – New Year’s With the Lighthouse Keeper
11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Play 1930’s games and help decorate the lighthouse for the New Year with the lighthouse keeper. Check daily events schedule at the admissions desk. FREE with museum admission.
Sunday, December 31 – NOON Year’s Eve Party for members only!
10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the Harms Gallery. Make a party hat, New Year’s wish ornament, and join the dance party with Bubbles the otter. Toast in the new year with sparkling ginger ale and fishy snacks when the ball drops at high noon. FREE for CMM members of all ages!

The Museum and Museum Store will be open for members only from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $9.00 for adults, $7.00 for seniors, military with valid I.D. and AAA members, and $4.00 for children ages 5 - 12; children under 5 and museum members are always admitted free.
