SOLOMONS, MD – September 24, 2018 – Activities and events are planned for all members of the family in October at the Calvert Marine Museum. Visit the website at www.calvertmarinemuseum.com for a complete listing.

Saturday, October 6 and Sunday, October 7 – Patuxent River Appreciation Days (PRAD)

10 a.m. – 5 p.m.  Enjoy an arts and crafts fair, live music, boat rides, toy boat building, great food, and many activities for children and their families all weekend. PRAD Parade is on Sunday at 2 p.m. FREE admission. Visit the website at www.calvertmarinemuseum.com for complete details.

Tuesday, October 9; Thursday, October 11; and Wednesday, October 17 – Sea Squirts

10:15 a.m. – 10:45 Theme is Animal Camoflauge! FREE drop-in program for children 18-months to 3 years and their caregivers. Limited space available. If the first session is full, another program will be offered at 11 a.m.

Friday, October 12 – Dick Hensold and Patsy O’Brien

7 p.m. Presented in partnership with the Celtic Society of Southern Maryland and Southern Maryland Traditional Music and Dance. Dick Hensold is the leading Northumbrian smallpiper in North America. For the past 20 years, he has performed and taught in England, Scotland, Japan, Canada, and across the United States. Patsy O’Brien joins him on vocals and guitar. He is an award-winning artist who hosts guitar workshops all over the country, boasting four critically-acclaimed solo albums. This performance is sponsored in part by the Ruddy Duck Brewery & Grill. Tickets are $20 online at www.cssm.org/tickets; $25 at the door. Doors open at 6 p.m. with beer and wine for sale.

Saturday, October 13 – Aww…Shucks Oyster Social

4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Join us for the museum’s annual fundraiser for the Dee of St. Mary’s. Indulge in the fattest and saltiest oysters on the half shell under the lighthouse. Enjoy heavy hors d’ oeuvres, beer and wine, and live music. Tickets are $75 each and available online at www.bit.ly//SupportTheDee. Proceeds from this year’s event will support the endowment for the Dee. 

Sunday, October 14 – Dee of St. Mary’s Public Sail 

2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Sail aboard the Dee and experience the Patuxent River like never before! The boat leaves from the museum dock. Fee is $25 for ages 13 and up, $15 for children 5 – 12. No children under 5 please. Preregistration required; call 410-326-2042 ext. 41 to register.

Friday, October 19 – Dino Daze

10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Be a paleontologist for the day! Ongoing activities include: digging for “dinosaur bones” in the Discovery Room sand box, a scavenger hunt filled with fun dinosaur facts that ends with participants cracking a dinosaur egg, and making a dino hat. Scheduled activities at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. include: excavating real fossils from matrix, singing special dinosaur songs and learning the dinosaur stomp dance. Activities appropriate for ages 4-10. FREE with museum admission.

Friday, October 19 – Low Lily

7 p.m. Presented by the Maritime Performance Series, this string and vocal trio explores the roots and branches of American folk music with traditional influences and modern inspiration that weaves together a unique brand of acoustic music. Liz Simmons (vocals and guitar), Flynn Cohen (vocals, guitar, and mandolin), and Lissa Schneckenburger (vocals and fiddle) are masterful players with deep and Old Time Appalachian sounds. Tickets are $20 online, $25 at the door and available at www.bit.ly//MaritimeConcerts. Doors open at 6 p.m. with beer and wine for sale.

Saturday, October 20 – Coffee and Doughnuts and 20% Off for Members

10:15 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. CMM members are invited to visit the Museum Store for coffee and doughnuts from 10 – 11 a.m. and will receive a FREE wine glass with a $50 or more purchase! Museum members enjoy a 20% discount in the Museum Store all day, and on the 20th of every month.

Thursday, October 25 – Little Minnows

10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. A program for children age 3 – 5 and their caregivers. The theme is Your Wild Backyard. Fee is $5, members are FREE. Limited space available.

The Calvert Marine Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $9.00 for adults; $7.00 for seniors, military with valid I.D, AAA and AARP members; $4.00 for children ages 5 - 12; children under 5 and museum members are admitted free.
