JULY EVENTS AT THE CALVERT MARINE MUSEUM

Summer is sizzling at the Calvert Marine Museum with activities and programs for all ages. Visit the website at www.calvertmarinemuseum.com for a complete listing of events.

Friday, July 3 – Last Summer on Earth Concert
Gates open: 5:00 p.m. Showtime: 6:30 p.m. Kick off the Fourth of July weekend with a live performance by Barenaked Ladies, the Violent Femmes, and Colin Hay (former lead singer of Men at Work) at the PNC Waterside Pavilion. Tickets are $49 and $59 and available on the website at www.calvertmarinemuseum.com, by calling 1-800-787-9454, or in person at Prince Frederick Ford/Jeep/Dodge. The museum will close at 2:00 p.m. for the concert.

Saturday, July 4 - Fireworks Cruise
8:00 p.m. till……Come aboard the Wm. B. Tennison for the best view in town. Bring your own picnic basket with your favorite food and libations. Chips, dips, water and soda provided. $30 per person; for ages 7 and up only. Preregistration required. Call 410-326-2042 ext. 41.

Tuesday, July 7 - Sea Squirts
10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Special Guest, Robert Gatton from Solomons Public Library will present Story Time. A free drop-in program for children 18 months to 3 years old and their caregivers.

Thursday, July 9 and Wednesday, July 15 - Sea Squirts
10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Good Morning Fish! Goodnight Ocean!
A free drop-in program for children 18 months to 3 years old and their caregivers.

Saturday, July 11 - SHARKFEST!
10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Sharks are one of the world’s most fascinating creatures! Live sharks and Chesapeake Bay native Atlantic sturgeon featured in the Corbin Pavilion. Hands-on activities throughout the museum, paint a shark mural, do shark crafts, get your face painted ($5 fee), play in the Shark Game Show, and take your picture in the jaws of a Megalodon shark. Food vendors on-site. See two performances by Rocknoceros in the Harms Gallery at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., sponsored by the PNC Foundation. Museum admission applies; CMM members are free. Complimentary museum passes will not be honored and strollers are not allowed in the museum for SHARKFEST.

Saturday, July 11 - Lighthouse Adventure Cruise: Southern Bay
7:45 a.m. Museum Dock. Participants will see six lighthouses as they cruise aboard a private charter boat. The cost is $130; $120 for members. Registration required at least 5 business days in advance. Call 410-326-2042 ext. 41 to register.

Friday, July 17 - Dee of St. Mary’s Sunset Sail
6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Relax with friends and learn about the history of both this traditional workboat and the life of a working waterman. Leaves from the museum dock. Guests are welcome to bring a snack and drink of choice on board for the trip. (Children under 12 are not permitted on this sail.) Tickets are $25 each. Preregistration required, call 410-326-2042 ext. 41 to register. Seating is limited.

Saturday, July 18 - Fossil Field Experience
9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Go to a local beach with a trained educator to search for fossils. Get a special tour of the fossil hall. For ages 8 and up. Pre-registration required, $20, includes museum admission. Space is limited. Call 410-326-2042 ext. 41.

Thursday, July 23 - Little Minnows
10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Shark Splash! A program for children age 3 – 5 and their caregivers. Fee is $5, members free. Preregistration suggested. Call 410-326-2042 ext. 41.

Saturday, July 25 - Lore Oyster House Day
1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Stop by the J.C. Lore Oyster House in Solomons for on-going activities both in the oyster house and out on the dock. Try your hand at oyster tonging; learn to tie a towline and coil a rope; measure oysters and follow the path an oyster takes through the processing house from the loading dock to the shipping room. Tie on an apron and become a shucker, or take on the role of the skimmer and decide how many pints have been shucked and what the shuckers should be paid. Learn oyster anatomy with our giant soft sculpture oyster, Rock-E-Feller. Admission is free.

Saturday, July 25 - Dee of St. Mary’s Public Sail
2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Sail aboard the Dee, leaving from the museum dock. Fee is $25 for ages 13 and up, $15 for children 8 – 12. No children under 8 please. Preregistration required, call 410-326-2042 ext. 41 to register. Seating is limited.

The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $9.00 for adults, $7.00 for seniors, military with valid I.D. and AAA members, and $4.00 for children ages 5 - 12; children under 5 and museum members are always admitted free.
