OCTOBER EVENTS AT THE CALVERT MARINE MUSEUM

Fall is in the air and it’s a great time to visit the Calvert Marine Museum. Activities and events are offered for all members of the family. For a complete schedule visit the website at www.calvertmarinemusem.com.

Saturday, October 3 – Lighthouse Adventure Cruise
7:45 a.m. Participants will cruise the Southern Bay and see six lighthouses aboard a private charter boat. The cost is $130; $120 for members. Registration required at least 5 business days in advance. Call 410-326-2042 ext. 41 to register.

Tuesday, October 6 and Thursday, October 8 – Sea Squirts
10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Touch and Feel: Use Your Senses to Discover Animals. Explore the sense of touch and discover how all animals don’t feel the same. Free drop-in program for children 18-months to 3 years old and their caregivers.

Saturday and Sunday, October 10 and 11 – Patuxent River Appreciation Days (PRAD)
10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Free admission. Enjoy an arts and crafts fair, live music on two stages, boat rides, toy boat building, and many activities for children and their families all weekend. Wine tasting in the Corbin Pavilion on Saturday; parade is on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

Wednesday, October 14 – Sea Squirts
10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Special Guest – Echo of Nature
Program sponsored by PNC Grow Up Great! Free drop-in program for children 18-months to 3 years old and their caregivers.

Wednesday, October 14 – Little Minnows
11:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon Special Guest – Echo of Nature
Program sponsored by PNC Grow Up Great! For children 3 to 5 years old.

Friday, October 16 - Maritime Performance Series presents Calico Jenny: A Trio of Sultry Sirens
7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. in the Harms Gallery. Tickets are $10 per person in advance and $15 at the door. Janie Meneely and her fellow musicians celebrate the maritime history, characters, and traditions of the Chesapeake Bay. The trio includes Meneely on vocals and guitar, Chelle Fulk on vocals and fiddle, and Molly Hickman on vocals, banjo and cello. Doors open 6:30 p.m. with beer and wine for sale. Saturday, October 17 – Harvest Taste of Solomons 2015
11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. In cooperation with the Solomons Business Association at the Museum Store. Tickets are $4 each. Call 410-326-2750 for more information.

Monday, October 19 – Dino Daze
10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Be a paleontologist for the day, dig for dinosaur bones in the Discovery Room sand box, go on a scavenger hunt filled with fun dinosaur facts, and end the day with cracking a dinosaur egg. Make your own dino hat; listen to dinosaur stories; sing special dinosaur songs; and learn the dinosaur stomp dance. Learn all you can about dinosaurs while having fun and playing games – fossil day has never been so exciting! Museum admission applies.

Saturday, October 24 - Fossil Field Experience
9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Go to a local beach with a trained educator to search for fossils. Get a special tour of the fossil hall. For ages 8 and up. Pre-registration required, $20 per person and includes museum admission. Space is limited. Call 410-326-2042 ext. 41.

Saturday, October 24 – Aww… Shucks Oyster Social
4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Join us for a fun-filled fundraiser for our skipjack, Dee of St. Mary’s. Eat oysters donated by local growers and enjoy delectable hor d’ourves from local restaurants. Live music, beer, wine, and a silent auction will round-off this evening of fun and friendship in support of the Dee. For more information and to buy tickets visit www.calvertmarinemuseum.com.

Wednesday, October 28 - Home School Day Explores Migration
10:00 a.m. – Registration. Program is 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. CMM is partnering with the Southern Maryland Audubon Society for our Fall Homeschool Day. Special scheduled activities and stations set up throughout the museum invite students to learn more about the movements of birds and marine animals that migrate into or out of the Chesapeake Bay. Come meet Ornithologist, Ernest Willoughby and find out about this profession. Museum admission applies, plus $2 per child program fee.

The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $9.00 for adults, $7.00 for seniors, military with valid I.D. and AAA members, and $4.00 for children ages 5 - 12; children under 5 and museum members are always admitted free.
