VISIT LOCAL AUTHORS AT PRAD
Find your new favorite book and get the perfect holiday gift!

The Calvert Marine Museum, in partnership with Schiffer Publishing, is proud to present local published authors and illustrators on October 10 and 11 during Patuxent River Appreciation Days. Join them outside at the Museum Store book fair tent from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. This is the perfect opportunity to find a new favorite book, personalize a book for a special Christmas gift, and participate in fun activities provided by some of the authors. Below is the schedule for the weekend:

Saturday, October 10
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon
Janie Suss – local Marylander authored the children’s favorite Oscar and Olive Osprey.

11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Zora and David Aiken are authors of Chesapeake Play Day. David illustrated this children’s book along with several of Priscilla Cummings very popular books including Chesapeake ABC’s and Chesapeake 123’s.

11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Peter Vogt - Maryland author of The Monster Shark’s Tooth and A Most Mysterious Fossil is a great for young readers. Follow the wild adventures of eight year old Johann and his grandfather as they explore the Chesapeake Bay shoreline and, falling through time, discover more than just the fossil teeth of long-ago monster sharks.

1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Eugene Meyer is a longtime Washington Post reporter and editor and author of Chesapeake Country, a classic photo book on one of America’s most beautiful destinations.

Elaine Ann Allen is an avid environmentalist who focuses on the aquatic life of the Chesapeake Bay and the importance of the environment in her books Olly the Oyster Cleans the Bay, Olly’s Treasure and Mallory the Forgetful Duck; and Kelli Nash, who grew up on the banks of Rock Creek in Pasadena, Maryland and has grown to love nature and the creatures of the wild. Kelli continues to be inspired by the bay and has illustrated children’s books by Elaine Allen, Susan Glick, and Lois Szymanski. Olly Explores the 7 Wonders of the Chesapeake Bay by Elaine Allen debuted in the Spring.

Richard LaMotte is America’s leading author and expert on sea glass. His recent release of the newest book, The Lure of Sea Glass: Our Connection to Nature’s Gems focuses on the emotional side of sea glass. This book is a sequel to his classic, Pure Sea Glass.

Sunday, October 11
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon
John Into and Nancy Price, a married couple from the Eastern Shore and Master Model Makers with decades of experience making models found around the globe in private collections, museums, yacht clubs and on Madison Avenue have authored Fundamentals of Model Boat Building. This book provides theories, methods, tips and photographic demonstrations to teach anyone the fine art of model building

12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m.
Jennifer Keats Curtis wants to help bring children closer to the animals in their own backyard and continues to amaze children with Saving Squeak: The Otter Tale, Osprey Adventure, and Squirrel Rescue.

2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Donald Shomette with favorites, Pirates of the Chesapeake Bay, Shipwrecks of the Chesapeake Bay, Lost Towns of Tidewater Maryland, The Ghost Fleet of Mallows Bay and Other Tales of the Lost Chesapeake, Tidewater Time Capsule: History Beneath the Patuxent, and Briar Patch: The Murder that Would Not Die.
