SOLOMONS, MD – March 4, 2020 – Keep children of all ages engaged during the long, lazy days of summer and sign up for summer camps at the Calvert Marine Museum (CMM). There are great options for children entering first through eighth grades, led by CMM trained educators. The 2020 summer camps are open for registration at CMM members receive a discount. Pirates & Scallywags
Entering Grades 1 – 2 

Dates: June 29 – July 3
Times: 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Cost: $100 museum members, $110 non-members

Ahoy, Mates! Come join our scallywag crew on this week-long camp. You will wear pirate garb, eat pirate grub and do pirate work. What? Pirates worked? You bet they did! Hunt for hidden treasure, stage a sea battle on the museum’s land-locked bugeye, swab the deck and sing sea chanteys, climb aboard to learn about local pirates, and sail the high seas of the Patuxent River on the Wm. B. Tennison.

Scales, Tails, & Sails!
Entering Grades 1 – 2 
Dates: July 6 – 10; July 20 - 24
Times: 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Cost: $100 museum members, $110 non-members

Explore the inner workings of the Calvert Marine Museum -- from fossils, fish, and otters to the wonders of the salt marsh. Go fossil hunting on a local beach. Make bug kites, spy on fiddler crabs, and interact with reptiles in the collection. Spend the day at a state park learning to ’see’ nature. Get a behind-the-scenes look at our River to Bay exhibit, where our animals are cared for, and watch an aquarist do a feeding. The final day, board the Wm. B. Tennison for a lunch time cruise on the Patuxent River.

Sailing into Science (STEM)
Entering Grades 3 – 5 
Dates: July 13 – 17
Times: 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Cost: $100 museum members, $110 non-members
Come and explore the various areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math that CMM has to offer. Learn about everything from the mechanics of sailing and navigation, to natural resources, fossils, and so much more! Join us for a week of fun and learning, capped off with a trip on our skipjack, the Dee of St. Mary’s.

Junior Paleontologist
Entering Grades 6 – 8
Dates: June 22 – 26
Times: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Costs: $120 museum members, $130 non-members
Become a junior paleontologist and hunt local beaches for fossil shark teeth, whale bones, and the shells of ancient snails and clams. Work with our professional paleontologists to uncover the mysteries of these ancient animals and the environments in which they lived. Learn collecting techniques and how to properly preserve your specimens. Keep a field journal, complete with your own drawings and observations. Get a special behind-the-scenes look at the amazing fossil collection at the Calvert Marine Museum. The final day of camp, take a river cruise on the Wm. B. Tennison, and show off your specimens in a fossil exhibition!


Explore how the prehistoric past, natural environments, and maritime heritage come to life and tell a unique story of the Chesapeake Bay. The Calvert Marine Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $9.00 for adults; $7.00 for seniors, military with valid I.D, AAA and AARP members; $4.00 for children ages 5 - 12; children under 5 and museum members are admitted free.
