February 6, 2017 Dear Antique Boat and Marine Engine Enthusiast: The weather may be cold and grey but the Calvert Marine Museum is already looking forward to the warmer weather and the Antique Boat & Marine Engine Show, May 6-7, 2017 as part of the twelfth annual Solomons Maritime Festival celebrating Southern Maryland traditions. The show hours are 10am – 5pm on Saturday and 10am – 3pm on Sunday (optional). Registration materials and the schedule of events for Saturday’s Maritime Festival will be available on our website, www.calvertmarinemuseum.com. As in the past, the marine engines and vintage boats will be on display in front of the museum and in the parking lot. Once again, we will have a forklift available for those requiring extra help unloading and loading. Although there will be no judging, each exhibitor will receive a commemorative plaque of the event. On display in the boat basin will be the recently-built, electronically powered, modified Smith Island Crab Scrape. If you would like to participate, please complete the enclosed registration form. Registration forms can also be found on CMM’s website. There is no registration fee. The event is open to collectors of pre-80 outboard and inboard engines, antique marine steam engines, and model engines. Antique and classic boats of all kinds can be displayed on trailers or afloat in the museum's boat basin. Please return the registration to me by April 14, 2017. We have reserved a block of rooms for Friday and Saturday nights at the Holiday Inn Solomons at the reduced rate of $91 per night plus tax. The rooms have been reserved under Calvert Marine Museum, Solomons Maritime Festival until April 21, 2017. When calling for reservations you must give the Holiday Inn the code “C2M.” All participants are invited to our traditional supper in the boat basin at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday evening. Thanks to our sponsors, we have managed to hold the cost again to $15 per person. If you wish to join us, please include a check payable to the Calvert Marine Museum with your registration. Once again, we will also offer a free continental breakfast on Sunday morning. Indicate on the registration form if you will be taking advantage of this offer. Calvert Marine Museum is offering to provide a display panel with pictures and text to illustrate the history of your boat or engine, or to show the stages of a restoration project. We will take your photographs (maximum of six) and have them scanned, arranged, and dry mounted on an approximately 22”x28” foamcore board. You will also need to provide a title or heading and any text you want to include (150 words maximum, please). Please include your telephone number in case we have questions. All original photographs or other artwork will be returned. You can also send the text and images as a digital file (JPEG or TIFF) to reidsd@co.cal.md.us. Text and photos will need to be received by April 14, 2017. After the show is over you get to keep the display!
